Meet our gorgeous girl Brandy, the English Bulldog. Brandy has sadly had a difficult start in life. She came to Thornberry this week as her previous owner was no longer able to care for her. It was clear that she hasn’t visited a vet for a considerable amount of time, and she came to us in a very poor state. She has absolutely broken our hearts.
Brandy was originally used as a breeding bitch before passed previous owner and it is very clear that she has had many, many litters. Because of this, her mammary tissues have become so enlarged that they are now inches from the floor. Not only is she incredibly uncomfortable as a result, but she’s at real risk of developing an infection. There is a very high chance that we will have to perform surgery in order to ease her suffering.
On arrival she was infested with fleas to the point that we were incredibly concerned that she would develop Anaemia. She also has Bacterial Dermatitis in the folds of her skin; sadly all too common in brachycephalic dog breeds.
If all of this wasn’t enough, she is also urinating blood continuously and our veterinary team are working hard to investigate the root cause of this issue. It is likely that Brandy’s care will cost us up to, or even over, £5,000, and she is just one of the many stories to tell.
Every single day we are hearing from owners who are desperate to rehome their dogs, many of which are in similar sad situations to Brandy. We want to help and be there for as many of these suffering animals as we can, but we can’t do it alone.
How you can help dogs like Brandy
Your donation can help our vet and animal care team to provide Brandy with the best possible care and help her get back to enjoying life. Brandy is not available for adoption at the moment as we are working hard to put a care plan in place for her. She is 6 years old and, with her many issues, it’s incredibly important to us that we help her quickly to improve her quality of life. At the moment she is struggling, and she needs our help, love and care desperately.
Anything you can donate will be literally life-changing for her, so thank you.
