Animals for adoption

It is important to understand that every animal we take in have their own story and sometimes they may have been through a difficult experience. This might mean they need extra training or time to settle in, but most of all they will require a lot more patience. Through our adoption process we try to find the animal the best suited home for them, to make sure we get a happy ever after for both the animal and the owners alike.

How adoption works at Thornberry

After seeing an animal online or onsite the first step is to speak to a member of staff to make sure the animal is what you are looking for and will be a suitable match. You can do this by visiting the site if you have seen the animal online.

The next step is to fill out an animal enquiry form. This gives us more details about yourself and lifestyle to make sure you both are a good fit for each other. Sometimes we get a large demand on an animal so we will take in multiple forms. This will allow every one interested a chance of adoption and also helps us to make sure the animal has the most suitable home.

Application form

When you visit the site after getting in touch, you will be able to meet the animals for the first time. You can then fill out an animal enquiry form. This gives us more details about yourself and lifestyle to make sure you both are a good fit for each other. This will allow everyone interested a chance of adoption and also helps us to make sure the animal has the most suitable home.

Second meeting

If you are successful on your application, we will invite you back for a second meeting and bring along anyone else the animal needs to meet. At this point if the animal is a cat then we would arrange for the adoption date.

Home checks

Home checks are required for every dog before we set the adoption date. We need to make sure the home environment is suitable for the dog and the garden is secure. If dogs/rabbits are going to live with other dogs/rabbits, we will arrange an introduction.

Keep in touch

Every adoption is as unique as each animal. Please remember although sometimes it might seem like a lengthy process, we are doing this to make sure the animal stays in the right home for their lifetime.
